There’s one word that makes me cringe every time I hear it. This word holds us back from living a life of freedom. It becomes an excuse. It allows us to say, oh well, it didn’t work out.
What is this word? It’s TRY!
I despise the word try. Ask Jer what happens when he slips in a try. I rant about ability and say, “we don’t try, we do.” In the words of the wise Jedi master, “Do. Or do not. There is no try.”
By using the word try, we set the tone to not accomplish our goal. We verbalize our doubt and it becomes engrained in us. We waver on our commitment to give it our all.
Instead of saying I’ll try, say I will. Take action. Give it your all.
You might fail. That’s just part of doing. Eventually, it will all work out.
Pay attention to how many times you say try today. When you catch yourself saying I’ll try, restate the sentence saying I will. Commit to making this change for 30 days and watch your life change.
If you get your try-s under control, think about this one. Instead of saying I can’t say, I won’t. This is the one I’ve been reflecting on this year. It’s amazing what happens when you turn, I can’t lift that 50-pound weight into I won’t lift that 50-pound weight. It becomes a choice instead of a limit and suddenly it becomes attainable.
Have you removed the word try?
What was the outcome?
